Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) 

 

Main purpose of job:

 

The British Embassy Niamey is looking for a dynamic candidate to fill a position as a Post Security Manager (PSM) in the corporate and security section. This section looks after the key operational elements involved in ensuring the safety of the personnel, buildings and infrastructure, working under and closely with the Post Security Officer (PSO) and Regional Security Adviser (RSA).

 

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work at the heart of the UK’s operations in Niger. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills, the ability to communicate effectively and a deep understanding of security threats and risks in Niamey and in Niger. They should also demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Additionally, key integrity, professionalism, discretion and reliability attributes should be prevalent. You can also expect to work closely with the wider Embassy team, security personnel in other international and diplomatic organisations and local authorities.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

   

Policy and procedure: You will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the Embassy Security Standard Operating Procedures and providing support to Embassy on broader contingency and crisis planning. You will investigate and document security related incidents and breaches.

 

Security personnel and contract management: You will be responsible for the day-to-day management support of the guard force employed by the embassy. You will be required to build relationships with our security team and guard force of our hosts. You will also coordinate with the Embassy-contracted private security company to monitor performance, report on SLAs and KPIs, conduct reviews (spot checks), and support training to personnel.

 

Asset and infrastructure: You will oversee and maintain an up-to-date record of security inventories and equipment and monitor the quality and maintenance and report any defects to the PSO. This includes accurately forecasting future requirements in collaboration with the and Corporate Services Manager (CSM), and requesting replacements or repairs as required. 

 

Monitoring and reporting: You will monitor, analyse and report on potential security threats and trends. Here you will maintain our established network of contacts within the Nigerien security authorities and country-based Security Managers / Advisors at other international and diplomatic organisations.  You will also lead on weekly security updates during the staff meeting and quarterly updates to the Post Leadership Committee on security matters.

 

Wider Embassy work: As a full member of the embassy team, you will also make a wider contribution to making the Embassy a friendly and supportive environment to work in. Where necessary, you must be ready to support any other Embassy business (e.g. emergency, political or corporate work).

 

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

 

A strong academic record to degree level or relevant professional qualification

 

Strong written French and English, and French/ English translation and interpretation ability

 

IT literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and other common software)

 

Knowledge of the Nigerien institutions and security system

 

Good team player with a proven track record in building a strong network of contacts

 

An ability to think independently, critically analyse information and draw out conclusions

 

Ability to work independently and unsupervised, and as part of a wider team

 

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 

 

Previous experience of working for an Embassy or other international organisation.

 

Knowledge of local languages e.g. Haoussa, Zarma etc.

 

Proven experience in risk assessment and security reporting.
